10 Basic SEO On-Site Tactics for Optimization

Many areas of search engines optimization are off-site and targeted for backlinking and referral traffic. You can’t ignore the on-site details and structure though, all of it goes with building a successful website. You need to understand keyword density, site structure, meta tags and descriptions, site visibility, etc. Proper on-site SEO is arguably more important than off-site SEO but since the rules of search engines and their affects change so often its hard to give a definitive answer for what holds more weight, however your effort is never wasted.
Effective Tactics For On-Site SEO
- The Meta Tag Keywords and Descriptions: These are keywords that describe your website to search engines. These tags have a direct effect your search engine rank position and placement. These are typically brief, specific descriptions that explain as much information as possible. The primary focus of these is the for the search engines use them to index your page/website.
- Content: Make sure your content is unique, interesting, and original. Substandard content makes for a poor quality website with little traffic.
- First Words: On your article or post page, the first words are the most relevant every since Google Inc. released their LSI algorithm that takes for first few words and hold them with strong importance for indexing.
- The URL: Don’t use a stock url structure for your domain. For example, a stock url contains the date and name of the author, when all you want to see if the domain name and the name of the article, possibly the date now that Google Inc. updated their algorithm based on relevance and date.
- The H1, H2, & H3 Tags: These are words that show the search engine the main subjects and contents for the page that is being crawled. These tags should be keywords that your are targeting for SERP ranks.
- Inner Linking: These are anchor text links that link within a site to another page within the same domain. For example, if you post and the link the featured page to your blog roll, which is shown on more than 2-3 pages, other than the original post, that is Inner Linking.
- Outbound Links: These are links that are technically called “backlinks”. They are just as they sound really, they are anchor text links that link back to your url of choice. The backlinks must come from the same niche as well. Example; SEO blog should be leaving backlinks on an SEO related site.
- Image Descriptions and Tags — Every good post, and website for that matter, has proper and consistent SEO edited images. When you upload an image the key point of SEO is the image Title, Alternate Title, and Description. All of these aspects for uploading and using an image should be keyword related to the post its added to.
- Keyword Density — The key to keyword usage is amount based on post length. Around 8% is a solid percentage to shoot for. For example; you have 600 word article, then you should have about 50-55 keywords, spaced out throughout the article so it doesn’t seem spamy and still reads well.
- Comment System: A strong and effective comment system, such as Disqus, is a great way to help your SEO. Spamy comments and keywords related posts are good in small amounts, to many comments drains your rank and authority so you need to limit them. A great comment system is key to blocking the spam comments and creating visitor relationships through the comment application.
