Google’s New Specialized Search Application

Google's New SearchGoogle Related was launched recently, making it the most recent tool in Google utility belt. This simple extension offers a sleek, unobtrusive, content rich toolbar that is shown at the bottom of the browser. Google Related has a few key features that make it an easy access route for quick related content, below are what Google Related offers:

  • Related Videos
  • Mapped Locations
  • Product and Place Reviews
  • Similar News and Events
  • Relevant Images
  • Related Informational Articles

How Does It Work?

The Google Related feature is a personalized plethora of results that are displayed based on the users behavior and history. This most likely won’t have much on an impact on the web from a webmaster/SEO perspective, but it may become a minor metric later on. I would imagine that this feature will offer the same general impact that the Google Toolbar had upon its release.

From a webmaster stand-point this opens up a few doors. The Google Related bar shows accurate results automatically, this makes the SERP’s (Search Engine Rank Positions) more competitive and has the ability to offer much more traffic if you rank for highly searched keywords/terms. The benefit of this new feature is automated searching based on what Google has tracked about you. Relatively useful feature if your searching for some content that isn’t popular or if you can’t find the correct answer to your question. The automated results might provide you with some new leads or points of reference, very useful for research in my opinion.

Looks like Google is getting cooler by the day dude. I’m seeing Google Plus pop up more and more lately.

I’ve only used it a few times myself, but it’s not very intrusive and I haven’t had any problems with it. The results are accurate as always.
